EdgeTier: Dublin’s Quiet CX Giant — How Three PhDs Built a Ten-Year AI Infrastructure

AI conversations these last few years mostly orbit chatbots and customer-facing generative AI. But one of the most mature and impactful uses of AI in the B2B world is somewhere else entirely: helping companies actually listen to their own customers. Analyse millions of conversations, messages, and calls and turn them into insight. And one of the strongest representatives of that work, coming out of Dublin, has been growing quietly for ten years.

A Dublin AI Story Begins: Three PhDs, One Vision

EdgeTier was founded in Dublin in 2015 by Dr. Shane Lynn, Dr. Bart Lehane, and Ciarán Tobin. All three have deep academic backgrounds in data science and machine learning. Their shared insight was simple but transformative: contact centres (customer support and service hubs) and customer experience teams generate millions of conversations every day, yet the vast majority of those conversations are never analysed. Traditional quality control processes can manually review only 1-5% of agent interactions; the remaining 95%+ of value disappears.

EdgeTier’s solution: an AI platform that analyses 100% of conversations in real time.

Why Dublin?

For EdgeTier, Dublin is more than a place of incorporation; it’s at the heart of the team’s structure. Data science and machine learning programmes at Trinity College and UCD shaped EdgeTier’s founding team and its later technical hires. State-backed startup accelerators like Enterprise Ireland and InterTradeIreland supported early-stage growth.

Dublin has another strategic advantage: e-commerce, aviation, and retail companies have major European hubs in Ireland. EdgeTier’s first big customers (Ryanair, CarTrawler) came from this nearby ecosystem; the product was built around real customer problems.

Recent Milestones

€6M Series A (June 2023). EdgeTier closed a €6 million Series A round led by Norwegian investment firm Smedvig Capital, with participation from Episode 1 Ventures and Act Venture Capital. Total funding now sits at $8.72 million. The company used this round to grow its team from 22 to 70+ employees.

74 Employees Across Two Continents (February 2026). The company today operates with 74 employees across Europe and North America. The Dublin-based core team, a smaller team in Spain, and ongoing expansion into North America reflect the company’s global scale.

20+ Countries, Billions of Messages. EdgeTier’s platform is in use across 20+ countries, and its systems process billions of customer messages. That places it as a mature, large-scale platform among AI-driven CX players.

Generative AI Integrations (2025-2026). EdgeTier added Generative AI and speech-to-text integrations to its platform, deepening omnichannel coverage. This keeps the product ahead of the modern AI wave.

Category Thought Leadership. EdgeTier’s report “6 Customer Experience Trends That Will Redefine CX in 2026” reinforced the company’s position as more than a technology vendor; it’s one of the sector’s thought leaders.

A Customer List That Tells a Story

EdgeTier’s customer base is a story in its own right:

  • Ryanair (Europe’s largest airline, Dublin-headquartered)
  • TUI Travel (global travel and holidays)
  • Holland & Barrett (health and wellness retail)
  • Abercrombie & Fitch (fashion retail)
  • CarTrawler (Dublin-born B2B car rental)
  • LoveHolidays and Holiday Extras (UK travel)
  • Electric Ireland (energy)
  • Tipico (sports betting)

The list shows that EdgeTier’s positioning crosses category lines, from retail to aviation, energy to online travel. The common thread: any sector with high-volume customer interactions can use EdgeTier as a scalable CX infrastructure layer.

What’s Next

EdgeTier’s roadmap is shaping up across four axes: deepening conversational intelligence with new generative AI capabilities, accelerating North American growth, expanding AI Quality Assurance across omnichannel coverage, and growing Dublin’s AI and data science talent pool.

What This Means for the Dublin AI Ecosystem

EdgeTier’s story holds particular weight for AI Dubliners. The companies we’ve featured so far — Nuritas (biotech), AI Labs Curriculum Associates (education), Quantexa (financial services), DevAlly (accessibility) — represent either next-generation startups or global hubs. EdgeTier sits in a different layer: a mature Dublin AI scale-up, ten years old, a category leader, with global brand customers.

The full picture of Dublin AI requires this diversity. Young startups like DevAlly, mature scale-ups like EdgeTier, global hubs like Quantexa: together they make up the Dublin AI ecosystem. EdgeTier represents that mature layer, showing that a story started ten years ago today touches billions of customer interactions worldwide.
