Qpids presenting a new AI-driven approach to first dates in Dublin

Qpids: The Trinity College Dublin Startup Bringing AI Into First Dates

You never really know where love will come from. In some cases, it may now come with a little help from artificial intelligence.

In Dublin, where dating culture continues to evolve alongside technology, new ideas are beginning to challenge how people meet. While dating apps have made introductions faster and more accessible, they have also contributed to a culture dominated by swiping, endless messaging, and increasing difficulty in forming genuine in-person connections.

That is exactly the problem Qpids is trying to solve.

Born out of Trinity College Dublin, Qpids is a concept designed to make first dates easier to arrange and less stressful to manage. Using AI, the platform matches people for first dates, automatically assigns venues, and even helps deal with last-minute cancellations. The goal is simple: remove the friction that often comes with organizing real-life meetings and make dating feel more human again.

In many ways, Qpids presents itself as an answer to the messy combination of spreadsheets, messaging apps, and last-minute coordination that often sits behind organised dating experiences. By automating much of that process, it aims to create something more seamless, efficient, and scalable.

The idea recently gained further attention at the TES Dragons’ Den Pitch Competition, organised by the Trinity Entrepreneurial Society. Competing alongside a range of strong startup concepts, Qpids secured third place on the night.

The top three results were:

  • Obscura in first place
  • Syncra in second place
  • Qpids in third place

The recognition reflects a wider interest in startups that apply artificial intelligence to everyday experiences. AI is already influencing how people work, what they watch, how they travel, and how they make decisions. It is no longer surprising to see entrepreneurs asking whether it can also play a role in how people meet.

Qpids enters that conversation at a time when many people are looking beyond traditional dating app experiences and searching for more direct, real-world connection. Whether AI-driven matchmaking becomes widely adopted or remains a niche innovation, concepts like Qpids suggest that the future of dating may look very different from the swipe-based systems people have become used to.

For Dublin’s startup scene, it is also another example of student-led innovation moving from campus ideas to public attention. And for anyone watching the intersection of technology, social connection, and entrepreneurship, Qpids is a name worth paying attention to.
