Five AI developments caught my attention while reading and researching between 12 and 18 October 2026. This time, let’s start with Ireland.
The Dublin Declaration and new investment figures offered plenty to follow locally. Elsewhere, new AI models, scientific research plans and the electricity needs of data centres made the headlines.
Dublin Declaration Sets Out Shared European AI Goals
At the International AI Summit in Dublin on 14 October, Ireland secured support from participating EU member states for the Dublin Declaration on Trustworthy, Safe and Sovereign Artificial Intelligence.
The declaration sets out shared priorities covering AI safety, adoption, technological sovereignty, skills and infrastructure. It is a policy commitment to cooperation, rather than a new law. enterprise.gov.ie
For me, the next question is how these shared ambitions will translate into practical action.

Irish AI Companies Attract €947.3 Million Since Early 2025
According to PitchBook analysis published by Enterprise Ireland on 12 October, Irish AI companies attracted €947.3 million in venture capital investment across 182 deals since the beginning of 2025.
Of that total, €691.3 million came from 107 deals in 2025. A further €256 million was invested across 75 deals in 2026 up to the announcement date.
Ireland also ranked second in Europe for AI venture capital deals per capita in 2026 to that date. This ranking measures the number of deals relative to population, rather than investment value. www.enterprise-ireland.com
I’m curious to see how these investments translate into products, growth opportunities and new company stories across Ireland’s AI ecosystem.

Meta Introduces Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full
On 12 October, Meta announced Muse Wonder and Muse Wonder Full, models focused on personal and professional AI agents.
Meta describes Active Memory as the ability to carry relevant information across conversations and retrieve it when needed. Active Focus is designed to help the models persist through difficult tasks, try alternative approaches and recover from errors.
These are Meta’s own descriptions and performance claims. Independent evaluations will help establish how reliably the models perform in everyday use. about.fb.com

CERN and Mistral Plan AI Models for Physics Research
CERN and Mistral signed a statement of intent on 15 October to establish a long-term strategic partnership focused on foundation models for scientific discovery.
The initial goal is to develop a physics model trained on simulated particle collisions. The plan brings together CERN’s expertise in physics, scientific data and computing with Mistral’s model training capabilities.
The announcement concerns an intended research partnership and model development programme. It does not present a completed model or scientific result. home.cern

Microsoft and Nscale Bring Energy Infrastructure Into Focus
On 18 October, Reuters, citing The Telegraph, reported that Microsoft had withdrawn from its agreement with Nscale for a data centre in Loughton, Essex, in the UK.
The initial Reuters report did not specify the reason for the withdrawal and said the companies had not yet responded to requests for comment. Coverage also highlighted delays in connecting the site to the electricity grid. However, the initial report did not establish those delays as the cause of Microsoft’s decision. www.investing.com
This reminded me that following AI infrastructure means looking beyond chips and funding. Electricity access and the time needed to bring projects into operation matter too.

What Stayed With Me From the Week
Ireland’s policy and investment developments, Meta’s new models, CERN and Mistral’s research plans, and the energy needs of data centres were the stories that stood out to me.
Through AI Dubliners, I’ll continue reading, learning and following what happens next.
What caught your attention? Is there a development you would add to the list?
